6 months

my tiny newborn has turned into a full on baby. he's been in this world for half of a year. i do not understand how that has happened, but indeed his 6 month birthday has come and gone. he has changed so much right in front of my eyes and i still feel like it's impossible that the little helpless bundle i brought home is the same excitable boy i have now.

finn can now sit up for minutes at a time. unlike a weeble wobble, he still falls down so we have to be careful where he sits. he laughs and squeals and smiles in response to people and in general to things he thinks are funny (the dogs, his toys). he can grasp the tiniest of objects and pulls everything within his reach toward his mouth. he has learned to grab large objects (like my keyboard and tablet) or food and silverware at the table. he has become an expert lunger and will thrust his whole body forward to reach something. he can walk in his walker (we have no stairs) and turn all the way around in his jumper/exersaucer. he won't roll over, but he can spin around on his belly or back. he fully supports his body on his hands during tummy time and can hold things while on his stomach. so many milestones!
on thursday, his offical 6 month half birthday, we celebrated by getting a little cake. of course, he didn't try any, but mr. h3b and i indulged in the summer berries and layers of cake, whipped cream, and custard. he was pretty interested in the flames and the cake, as he's been with all things at the table.

a week before he turned 6 months, we started putting him hi shighchair to spend dinner time up with us. we gave him a baby spoon, an empty sippy cup, and some of his own food bowls to play with. after clearing with the pediatrician, we decided to try rice cereal and breast milk for his first solid food and gave him a transitional sippy filled with water.
and he was such a good eater! since he had practiced taking pretend food from the spoon, he knew to open his mouth. he at the entire serving and was so excited for each bite. he drank from the sippy, but he was not pleased with the water. he gurgled and spit it out, looking at me as if to say, "where's the milk?". we're starting avocado on monday, so we'll have to see how he takes to a completely new taste.

Love, love that I have your blog now. :) I'm reading your posts and nodding my head in agreement to feelings about nursing and changes in our little ones. So glad that we can walk through this time together. :)
