the day we found out: july 18, 2009

after the waiting game of a mere two days (it felt so much longer), i took a test on saturday, july 18, 2009. i wanted to use first morning urine, so when i awoke at 7:40 am with a full bladder, there was no going back. i had mentally prepared myself to see the words "not pregnant". i just didn't believe that the "line" from the blue test was really a line. as bad those stark white spaces were, i imagined actually seeing the words to be that much worse, so i talked myself out of believing and prepared for "the worst". (this was, after all, month one...)

my favorite part about finding out is that you are in the bathroom right after you pee and you get the most amazing news of your life. it's not like when you get engaged, or when you get married, or any other fancy moment you remember. this moment comes with a urine soaked stick and visions of your toiletries.

i promised myself i wouldn't look at the test while the hourglass worked it's magic. so i waited, heart pounding more than it ever has, and then i looked down. it was 7:45 am and i saw "pregnant". i looked at myself in the mirror and did a cartoon-esque eye rub, not believing the words on the test. i giggled and smiled and i picked up that test to get a closer look, still in shock. i stood there for just a few minutes soaking it all in, before running to the bedroom to wake mr.
h3b.

he was sound asleep and i cuddled up next to him, tapping his shoulder. nothing. i put the stick in front of his face (mm, urine) and nudged him a bit more. still nothing. finally i said, h3b, don't you want to see it? he mumbled, confused, and as he rolled over i flipped on the bedside lamp to see his reaction. even with blurry, sleepy vision he knew what it said and he looked at me and smiled. we're going to have a baby!, he said.

and i melted.

OK...so I'm probably going to be the first to comment on all of your posts :)

You guys are way too cute! I can totally picture your cartoon-esque eye rub at 7:45 am.

I think it's kind of funny that such a monumental event has to happen over a toilet. Taking a pregnancy test is not the cutest thing ever. Derek wasn't home when I took mine - so Lola was the first to find out.

Are the Dog-sons excited to be big brothers?
